) when playing slowfire (or indeed "live" games).
I think it's really up to Trevor to put in new rules, if he were to want to, so I doubt any changes would be made to the client*, but of course you can use whatever rules you like (as long as your oponent agrees

I think the point behind the naming is to be able to compare quickfire and slowfire thud more easily - there was talk of calling it something like "glowing ember", IIRC, but the decision was that sounding similar was a good idea
and its turnwise
I thought that, too - I think I mentioned it a while ago - but other people seem to regularly use spinwise. Maybe it's one of those rifts in the space-time continuum which leads to different names being used in different books (or different editions of the same book).

*Lets face it there's a scarey enough todo list without adding new rules to it...

Actually both KVT and alternative Thud rules games are on the cards; it's just a matter of getting the initial client out of beta. Coding in alternative rule sets isn't hard (or so Dewi tells me
) but, as you say, there is a queue. Hopefully this year, though.
R we allowed to change the rules to the game or would the "vampire lawyers" descend? Cos isn't that like messing with Mr.Pratchett's property?
Plateau? What does that make aristotle? Aristoner? Wait he didn't do drugs...

The only copyright issues (IIRC) are plagiarism of the existing copyrighted material and creating derivatives of the existing material. The former is quite obvious--you can't pass off someone else's work as your own-- whilst the latter is more tricky but suffice it to say anything you do for the enjoyment of your own self, kin and friends in your own house is your own business; you'll only get in trouble when you try to distribute it publicly whether for commercial gain, or in competition with a commercial product.
For example, if I create a variation in which Dwarfs can jump the Thudstone and call it Jumprock Thud I can play it as much as I want with friends on my game here at home but the second I knock up a publicly accessible webpage, or a page that is publicly known but requires a membership, where on can play Jumprock Thud (or, say, print up a bunch of rules books for Thud set owners) I can expect PTerry's own personal Mr Slant to come knocking with certain unfriendly legal documents at any time.
Having said that, as far as thudgame.com is concerned, it's licensed by the Thud partners for the development of Thud on a commercial basis thus if someone comes up with an interesting rules variation we'll be happy to listen and possibly implement it if it sounds sufficiently interesting that some would like to play it (and it doesn't require an onerous amount of coding to do). Anything reasonable that makes Thud more interesting or gets more people interested in it is A Good Thing and probably something we want to support.
Feel free to post an abstract or summary of any idea(s) of this type but send any extensive document to us off-forum and we'll be happy to talk about it with you
I hope I've understood the question correctly and answered it thoroughly?
we could have a move which makes a dwarf turn into a real dragon and splatter the enitre board and then eat everything and set fire to the curtains.
that would be awesome

Or put a giant squirrel in the middle that is looking for a partner. And then when you come to close you have to build a nest for it and gather acorns to please it, or otherwise loose a leg and try to escape hopping like a bunny. Which might attract the attention of the rabbit lamping team that patrols the outer regions of the board, who will either turn you into a nice stew or sell you on ebay for peanuts !!
This way you end up in a squirrels private nut collection as a rarity, or you just go nuts and bite off your other leg...
Hey... there could be money in this
Thanks for wasting your time...
