Mr Scrub has been a wally

Founding PatronLibrarianDruidThudmeister

Not that there was a lot I could have done to prevent it, I suppose, but I have been rather foolish. My family and I are all going off on a narrow boat holiday next week. I'm trying to play in ITT07. Where I need to post a move every 24hrs. Oh dear.

I'll have plenty of time to come up with the moves, but no internet access to post them. Which is where this appeal for help comes in. Is there anyone out there who understands the tournament process and would be prepared to text me with the moves my oponents make, then post my replies to the forums?

I would be eternally grateful, I promise Wink

Hi Scrubby,

That sucks, at least from an ITT07 point of view. Holidays in itself are great, of course. Although I had one that I don't like to remember, but that one didn't suck, it blew Wink.
I could do the texting for you, but with all the things on my mind at the moment, I don't think I could keep you as up to date as you would like. So better keep me on the "if all else fails list".
Have you tried PM? I'm sure Lee, or Ponder, or SANEAlex could be of help.
Good luck!

Happy Thudding!

Re: Mr Scrub has been a wally

well, how many games you playing and how often would you like replies. I'm on holidays so I'd have the time but I don't know if anything will come up. Perhaps you should get a few people to all sms you just in case one doesn't make it. but I'd be happy to if you need.

@OB: Yes, I guessed you might be a [i]little[/i] pre-ocuppied Wink

@Sergeant L: I'm playing 2 at the moment. I might have finished the game against Magrat by the time I leave, but I might not. However, by half-way through the week things will all be changing: the second round begins on Thursday, so I'll either be knocked out and not need to worry about any games, or I'll have got through and have 3 new games.
As to how often I'd like replies, I have to post a move to the forums within 24 hours of my opponent posting a move.
You're probably right that having more than one person at the other end would be a good idea - might hopefully take the pressure off individuals, somewhat. And thanks for your offer - if it's OK I'll put you down as one source. Smile I'll PM you my phone number.

Another moment when I realise my foolishness... a clever person would have made the point that I'm in the UK - so, as the Sergeant and I have just worked out, it could be a rather expensive business if overseas folks get involved.

Of course, an expensive business is better to me than nothing, but I thought that it was only fair to warn people, and (being less than millionaire material) I'd prefer to find a cheaper solution.

I would be happy to try to help. A couple of problems:

1) We are opponents, and might be in the next round. Does this pass the smell test for the Tourney Gods?

2) I am a texting novice. We are a bit behind you cosmopolitan European types on this, although I do see the younger folks thumbing away. But for you, Mr S, I will conquer this brave new technology. If OB says it's ok, on account of we're both playing in the tournament.

3) Perhaps you have left already. Well, I will send you a PM on the subject.

Re: Mr Scrub has been a wally

I may be in Sydney next week but this shouldn't be a problem so if need be...

Thanks so much guys...
This is more or less my last post before I go, so the situation as I see it at the moment, is that I've managed to persuade SANEAlex to be my first port of call, since he's in the same country, but since he's very busy at the moment I'll text either Magrat or the good Sergeant (or probably both) if he's not able to reply.

Hopefully, if I've got the international code right my number is 0044 [deleted by Oograh Boike; please contact OB if you want the number] (That's [deleted by Oograh Boike; please contact OB if you want the number] in the UK, and I think you're supposed to take the first 0 of and add 0044).

Fingers crossed, and thanks again Smile

No, that's wrong - cos it's not the same for different countries...

Apparently to call out of the states you need to start with 011 then add the country code that you're aiming for, which for the UK is 44, then the number - so from Magrat to me it should be
011 [deleted by Oograh Boike; please contact OB if you want the number]

From Australia to call out you need 0011, then the UK code 44, then the number, so for Sergeant L to me should be
0011 [deleted by Oograh Boike; please contact OB if you want the number]

I'm beginning to see the other reason why it was a good idea to get someone in the same country as well Wink... this is a dark magic to me.

I have deleted all numbers in MS' posts, I'm sure we agree he needs a bit of privacy.
Before I did that, I made a copy of the last post, with numbers. If any of you missed the numbers, PLEASE CONTACT ME!! Hit the contact button on my site, and I will send you the post, unedited. This only applies to trusted people, of course, which in this case are SANEAlex, Sergeant Lettuce, and Magrat.
Oh and kudos to all of you, including MS, for being such great sports!

I'd just like to say an enormous thankyou to SANEAlex, that most excellent of Mr Scrub impersonators... What can I say, without him I'd be out on my ear by now, so I'm hugely grateful. If you're gonna be at April Showers on Saturday I think I owe you a pint or two.

And also many thanks to Magrat and Sgt L - although SA was so superb I never needed to call on you, it was a great comfort having people I knew I could fall back on.
